Career

Mohammed Shami has one of the most repeatable seam positions in modern fast bowling. The ball leaves his hand with the seam upright and stable, which is why he extracts movement off the pitch on surfaces that offer other bowlers nothing, and why he takes wickets in bunches once the ball begins to reverse.

He is at his most dangerous in the second and third spells of an innings, hitting the stumps more often than most bowlers of his pace by attacking a fuller length rather than seeking bounce. That method makes him particularly effective against tail-enders and in the middle overs of ODIs.

He was the leading wicket-taker at the 2023 Cricket World Cup despite not playing the early matches of the tournament, and has been part of India's first-choice Test attack for a decade.
