Career
Anil Kumble was a legspinner who did not turn the ball a great deal and did not need to. He bowled quicker than most wrist spinners, extracted steep bounce from his height, and relied on accuracy, topspin and subtle variations in pace to take more Test wickets than any other Indian bowler.
In 1999 he took all ten wickets in an innings against Pakistan at Delhi, one of only three instances in Test history. His durability was equally notable: he bowled long spells in unhelpful conditions for two decades, and once bowled with a broken jaw strapped up in Antigua.
He captained India briefly in Tests, later coached the national side, and has held senior roles in cricket administration and officiating committees.

Overview
What the figures show
45 IPL wickets, taken between 2008 and 2010, are the substance of Anil Kumble's tournament record.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the only franchise on the record, 2008 to 2010. That is a wicket every 21 balls. Set against the 101 bowlers here with 300 IPL balls or more, an economy rate of 6.58 is cheaper than their 8.17 median.
